Horizontal integration..
this is where more than one company from the same sector of work come together under one firm to work as one. An example of this is Thomas Cook integrating with Co-operative travel. Both of these are travel agents. another example is Alton towers, they are one separate business but work with burger king and coca cola to provide products for their customers.
vertical integration..
This is where more than one company work together although they arent part of the same business, they work together to help all the businesses make more profit. An example of this Thompson who are tour operators but own travel agents and also hotels and airlines.

Principals (Accommodation, transport, tourist attractions)
|
Wholesalers (Tour operators)
|
Retailers (Travel agents)
|
Consumers (us)
The chain of distribution shows us how goods and services are bought and sold in the travel industry. Tour operators will purchase the accommodation, transport and tickets for tourist attractions from the principals and put together package holidays which they sell in brochures and online. Selling brochures through the travel agents or direct to customers over the internet. You can see from the chain of distrubutions how they all rely on each other when buying and selling to customers.
