P1 Description of Tour Operators and example (link to websites) AJW
A tour operator typically combines tour and travel components to create a holiday. . The most common example of a tour operator's product would be a flight on a charter airline plus a transfer from the airport to a hotel and the services of a local representative, all for one price.
There are many types of tour operators such as:
Mass market operators - These are operators that work all over the UK with a massive amount of travel agent stores. They deal with package holidays such as summer sun, ski holidays. They have a certain type of holiday that cant be changed. e.g.Thompson, Thomas Cook, First Choice.
specialist operators - These operators make a holiday specifically for the customer, if they don't want to go completely by the book. e.g. Cox + Kings, Kuoni, Himalayan Kingdoms.
Domestic operators - These operators are based in the UK only and cater for English only. e.g. YHA, PGL, Shearings Holidays, Haven Holidays.
incoming operators - These are for people coming into the UK. e.g. Evan Evans tours, Titan Tours, Gullivers Sports Travel.
